Essential Oil Diffuser

I have many people ask me how to use essential oils.  There are various ways you can use essential oils in your everyday life.  You can see a list of them here.  Today, I want to focus on the use of an essential oil diffuser.  This is the best way to get the benefits of essential oils without actually applying them to your skin.

Diffusion is a way of dispersing any essential oil into any area you prefer.  There are many different types of diffusers out there, I will do my best to give you a good overview of them.

Candle Diffusing

You can use a pure soy candle to diffuse essential oil.  Simply light the candle and let it burn for 3-5 minutes.  Blow out the candle and then place a drop or two of essential oil onto the melted wax.  Do not place any drops on the wick itself, essential oils are highly flammable.  Relight the candle, you will soon have the aroma of the essential oil throughout your desired area.

The aroma however will not last forever, so you may have to reapply the essential oil.  Please be safe when using this method of diffusing.

Candle Diffusers

Candle diffusers come all shapes and sizes.  The idea behind the candle diffuser it that you can use a small candle to heat the essential oil that is placed above the flame.

Lamp Ring Diffusers

I enjoy using lamp rings, it is a simple effective way to diffuse essential oils.  The lamp rings are placed directly on the top of a standard sized light bulb.  the have a small lip on them where you place a few drops of essential oil before placing it on the light bulb.  As the light bulb heats up, it gently diffuses the essential oil into the air.

Fan Diffusers

Fan diffusers are available in a large variety of shapes, sizes and colors.  Basically, the electric fan diffuser blows the essential oil aromas into the air.  Essential oils are applied to a disposable pad or tray and then placed in the fan diffuser.  When the fan is powered on, it blows air across the pad or tray and diffuses the essential oil into the room.

Pay attention to the size of the room you want to place the diffuser in.  Since they come in many different sizes, make sure the fan is the correct size to spread the aroma throughout the entire room.

Essential Oil Nebulizers

A nebulizer is a device that breaks down essential oils into separate molecules and the dispenses the molecules into the air.  A nebulizer consists of two main parts: the plastic base that contains the motor and a clear blown-glass looking device that holds and “nebulizes” the oils.  Some believe that nebulizers provide a higher amount of theraputic benefit.

Keep in mind that these devices are much more expensive than other diffusers and it can become expensive to replace parts.  also, the device requires cleaning on a regular basis.
